Thanks so much for donating so many hunts to Ducks Unlimited Chapters in northwest Missouri. I am only aware of some of the Chapters that you have donated to. Those that I know of include chapters such as Lewis and Clark in Liberty, the Plattsburg/Lathrop Chapter, the Mound City Chapter, Excelsior Springs Chapter, Platte City Chapter, and the Missouri State Convention. I know as you have guided adults and youth on these goose hunts, you have been a ambassador for wetland conservation. Thanks so much Dan.
The hunts you have donated have helped us to raise considerable dollars for the purpose of wetland conservation across the continent. An important aspect of our fundraising efforts that not everyone understands is how Ducks Unlimited can leverage dollars raised at the grass roots level (local DU Committees) to secure additional funding from Federal and State sources. For every dollar raised by a DU Chapter, DU will take it and multiply it from 3 to 10 times before it’s spent directly on habitat restoration. Ducks Unlimited can use dollars raised to request additional funding through grants such as the North American Wetland Conservation Council (a branch of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) in order to secure additional funding to be used for wetland conservation across the continent. This is one important aspect of DU fundraising that helps Ducks Unlimited be so efficient. We’re proud of the fact we spend over 80% of each dollar directly on habitat conservation. And the wetlands DU builds not only provides homes and habitat to migratory waterfowl, but they also aid us in cleansing our water, they recharge ground water supplies, reduce the severity of flooding, and also provide quality habitat and cover for over 600 species of wildlife, many of which are threatened or endangered.
Thanks for helping us secure local monies to allow us to restore wetlands for all to enjoy.
